"May all beings be happy, peaceful, and liberated."
This mixed media watercolor illustration is one of the first pieces I created after participating in a 10-day silent meditation retreat in the summer of 2016. I felt so centered and peaceful when I came home, I decided to create a series of artwork to remind myself of those blissful feelings. Then I figured other people can benefit from the reminder, too!
I painted fun and organic circle poppy flowers with red, purple, and blue watercolor and gouache (an opaque watercolor), and added simple lines and handwritten message with fine felt-tipped pen.
This phrase is from the Metta meditation prayer - Metta means "loving compassion" in the old buddhist language, and I close each of my daily meditation practice with Metta meditation. In Metta meditation, we fill our body and mind with kind and loving thoughts towards every living being. It's a very relaxing meditation, and I like starting my day with calm and quiet mind.
