(You can watch me talk about my work and inspirations on my couch in this short video.)
Hi! I'm Yuko Miki.
I'm an artist/illustrator at Honeyberry Studios in Seattle, Washington.
I love creating simple and joyful art to make you happy every day.
I grew up in a small town of Himeji, Japan, surrounded by rice fields and mountains. I visited the beautiful Vashon Island while I was in high school and immediately fell in love with the nature and people of the Pacific Northwest. I moved to Seattle in 1996 as an international student, and one thing led to another - I'm still here and loving it <3
I'm inspired by nature, animals, and simple joys of everyday life (= food, mostly).
I started pursuing my creative passion in my early 30s, first as a hobby, and then more seriously in 2013. Even though my career in non-profit (I worked for an organization providing services to people impacted by domestic violence) was very rewarding, I was aching to do something more creative with my life.
After much planning and number crunching, I quit my social service work of 14+ years on July 31st, 2015 to grow my small creative business, Honeyberry Studios, full-time.
It was a VERY scary decision (I mean, how do we survive without those steady paychecks and benefits??).
I'm constantly battling my insecurity and self-doubt, but I haven't regretted the decision to quit once.
You can learn more about my process, life, and inspirations on my blog and check out my illustration portfolio here.
I'm currently living and working out of my tiny apartment with my husband, Dave, and two loud and wild budgie parakeets, Gerty & Lenny.
